Seating Lead Design Engineer – Japan

We are seeking a highly skilled Seating Lead Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of automotive seat systems, encompassing frames, foam, trim covers, recliners, tracks, and mechanisms. You will interpret styling surfaces and packaging requirements to create detailed engineering designs.

Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams including styling, CAE, manufacturing, and testing to ensure designs meet stringent cost, quality, safety, and performance targets. Your responsibilities will also include conducting and documenting DFMEA, leading design reviews, and ensuring compliance with industry and customer standards. You will support prototype builds, validation tests, and implement design changes as needed.

Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX is essential for preparing CAD models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Material (BOMs). A strong understanding of ergonomics, comfort, safety regulations, and NVH aspects in design is also required. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of seat comfort design, foam and trim development, structural requirements, and safety compliance, along with familiarity with manufacturing processes like welding, foam molding, trimming, and plastic injection. Experience with DFMEA, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and global safety regulations (e.g., FMVSS, ECE, GB standards) is highly valued. You will also work with global suppliers to confirm manufacturing feasibility and DFM/DFA compliance.
